No car? No problem!

I don’t know about you, but I LIVE for kinda cheesy nostalgia-inducing attractions. I’ve lived in Montreal for a long time, but I get really enthusiastic about traditional festivities and events happening around the city- even those that are meant for tourists. If you were to ask my friends, they’d probably say my enthusiasm is a little embarrassing.

You can imagine my deep sadness and all-around FOMO over the fact that I rarely get to participate in sugar shack season due to the fact that neither I nor any of my useless friends have cars.

If you find yourself in a similar position, turn. that. frown. upside. down, there is a sugar shack coming to Montreal’s Rosemont-Petit-Patrie neighbourhood this weekend. On April 8, from 11:00-4:00 the urban sugar shack will set up shop in Maisonneuve Park out of their pop-up mobile barn. Only a short distance from Viau Metro, you don’t need to travel the typical hour or more outside of the city to experience one of Quebec’s most beloved traditions.

You’ll find most of the typical attractions; maple taffy tasting, folk music and dancing and poor man’s pudding tasting. All proceeds from the event will go to the Joy of Eating Better Foundation, which helps communities across Quebec and New Brunswick eat better.

For more information see the full event description here, and check out the other stops around town that this urban sugar shack will be making! So be sure to add this to your weekend to-do list because not only is this in Montreal proper, but it's also kind of your last chance to do the whole sugar shack thing, before the season ends for good.
