Hey Montreal!

Get those stretch pants and dancing shoes ready, you’re in for a day of delicious food, non-stop rum, activities, demonstrations, music, and more! A Taste of the Caribbean is returning for its 18th edition, and this year’s festival is The Rum Edition. This weekend The Taste of the Caribbean Festival, summer solstice, and St-Jean Baptiste holiday are all colliding, so let’s celebrate summer and our phenomenal province Caribbean style!

When: June 21st-25th, 2017 11:00am-11:00pm
Where: Clock Tower Quay, Old Port of Montreal
How: The event is FREE, just show up and enjoy!

So, let’s start with the most important part: rum. The Rum Edition is the one that you don’t want to miss for a number of reasons, but reason #1 is certainly the rum. The attendees are welcomed to sample and learn about all sorts of Caribbean rums that have been masterfully curated by the festivals rum ambassador and mixologist extraordinary, Gabrielle Panaccio. Here’s what you need to know:

The Rum Zone: Treat yourself to a Rum Zone Passport and you will not regret it. Sip on premium rums, learn about them, and enjoy! The Rum Zone is open from 1:00pm-9:00pm daily and the Passports range from $30-$100.  Credit: totc.ca

Rum Masterclasses: Join hosts Gabrielle Panaccio and Quebec Rum to learn all things rum! I don’t know about you, but we could definitely know more about one of our favourite liquids! Up your street cred a bit, learn something new, and have a blast. Classes are at 7:00pm June 22nd-25th for $60 each.

Cooking with Rum Demonstrations: If you want to embrace rum into your everyday life (who doesn’t), you should probably attend one of the Festival’s cooking demonstrations with award-willing Chef Alain Lemaire (runner up on Cutthroat Kitchen in 2015). He will provide step-by-step guides for how to infuse rum into your food preparation. The demos are $30 each, click here for more info.

There are also two TOCT special cocktails, Mai Tai 9.84 in honour of Bruny Surin’s best time and Le Lightning Bolt in honour of the legendary Usain Bolt. Credit: totc.ca

Now, believe it or not, there’s more to life than just liquor (we were surprised, too). So, let’s talk events! There will be never-ending music, from DJs to Steel Pan Players, your ears are in for a real treat. Additionally, there will be tons of dance workshops so get ready to move those hips! Kids are welcome, come one come all, because the kid’s zone is going to be going off all weekend. Oh, and come hungry, because the best Caribbean food vendors you could imagine will be cooking up the Caribbean’s finest just for you.

Now, last but not least, CONTESTS!  You have the chance to win a Rum Passport, a trip to Barbados, or a trip to Haiti! Yes, you heard us correctly. Click here for more infoCredit: totc.ca

There’s a million reasons to attend TOTC this year, and zero reasons not to. So, do the math. We’ll see you there! Credit: totc.ca
